There will soon be a public bookcase in the municipality of Finsing - initially specifically for children at a playground.

Finsing - In the Committee for Social Affairs, Families and Culture, the local councilors agreed to create such an offer.

The right location is now being sought.

When the first public bookcase in the district was set up in Erding a good four years ago, this form of swap meet was hardly known in this country.

There are now bookcases in many places.

In Walpertskirchen, an old telephone box was converted, in Moosinning and Eichenried there are restored wooden cupboards, in Erding a robust glass and metal case.

There are bookcases especially for children in Poing in the neighboring district of Ebersberg.

There are cupboards in the shape of whales at the playgrounds, and anyone who wants to donate or return children's books in good condition can put them in a large box.

The committee can also imagine such an offer for finsing.

Andrea Struck (Greens), with the support of her council colleagues Bernhard Faschinger (non-party), Julia Manu (CSU), Michael Suhre (WGN) and Gertrud Eichinger (SPD), had requested that the committee deal with a freely accessible bookcase.

"I've had that in the back of my mind for a long time," explained Struck.

With her application, she wanted to make people in Finsing think about whether a bookcase would also be conceivable here.

Struck had a few possible locations in mind.

The town hall square in front of the library is actually a very beautiful square, but it is used relatively little.

Perhaps a freely accessible bookcase could enhance this area, Struck suggested.

The chapel or the town center near the fountain are other possible locations.

Here, the offer could particularly appeal to seniors, who could start a conversation and have a goal when walking.

Such a swap exchange is also sustainable – new books that have been read are constantly coming into circulation.

"But I would like it best at the playgrounds especially for children's books," Struck stated at the meeting.

Waterproof boxes could be made available for this. "It doesn't cost us anything," Andreas Wimmer (FWF) liked the idea.

"We just need someone to make sure it doesn't end up in the trash can." That was very important for Mayor Max Kressirer (WGE) - also to prevent writings that are harmful to young people from ending up in the boxes.

Struck suggested that sponsors could be found for this task.

Julia Manu (CSU) called the public bookcases a "great idea".

More and more children have hardly any access to books, so such a low-threshold offer would be an "important contribution".

Manu also liked the idea of enlivening certain places.

Perhaps a location near the school is also conceivable, she suggested.

However, Kressirer noted that the elementary and middle schools already work closely with the community library.

Ultimately, it was agreed to start with a box of books, with more to follow.

A box like that, "it's easy to get hold of," said Kressirer.

Perhaps a split box could also be painted and converted for this purpose.

You want to clarify that now as well as the location.

In addition, Struck would like to start an official call to find sponsors.
