Producers Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly have teamed up with screenwriter Andrew Davies, who penned the screenplay for
House of Cards
, to produce a series inspired by the antics of Boris Johnson and the 'partygate' scandal.
Called
Downing Street
, the project traces the difficulties for a politician to reconcile
“complicated personal life and the permanent demands of professional duty”.
Although very inspired by the current English head of government, the prime minister of the series will be "fictitious".

Inspired by the “partygate” affair, this production comes as the climate is most stormy for Boris Johnson, faced with criticism from his party, the press and the general public.
He is notably accused of having defied the health protocols that he himself put in place, accusations which led to several resignations among his relatives.
An investigation was opened on January 25 by the Metropolitan Police of Greater London, which targets a dozen banned parties in one year.
