The rescuers do hard work after the S-Bahn accident near Ebenhausen-Schäftlarn near Munich.

A local bakery made a great gesture.

Schäftlarn - First there is a loud bang, then a horn shrills and startles the residents.

On Monday at around 4.35 p.m., in the middle of rush hour traffic, two S-Bahn trains collided head-on near the Ebenhausen-Schäftlarn station - on a single-track route.

Around 95 people were on the two trains at the time of the accident.

A passenger dies, at least 14 people are injured.

There was initially no information on the identity of the dead person and the severity of the injuries.

The cause of the accident was still unclear in the evening – the concern was initially with the many passengers.

Hundreds of rescue workers were deployed.

Blue lights flickered through the night and sirens could be heard again and again.

The fire brigade used heavy equipment.

She had to free a trapped man and help some off the trains, others climbed out themselves.

The work of the helpers is difficult because the scene of the accident with the derailed wagons is elevated on an embankment and is difficult to reach.

Everyone got ready for a long night.

Experts and investigators were also expected to clarify the causes.

"This is terrible news," wrote Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) on Twitter.

"We mourn with the relatives and wish all those injured in the S-Bahn accident a speedy recovery." And he praised: "Thanks to all the rescue workers for their quick work."

Transport Minister Kerstin Schreyer (CSU) rushed to the scene of the accident.

"It's shocking when you see (...) what forces are at work there," she said.

Her thoughts are with the families of the dead and those injured.

"I really wish that those who are not injured will get rid of these pictures as soon as possible."

Relatives and passengers were looked after near the scene of the accident, also by a crisis intervention team and emergency pastoral care.

Ingo Ruber, operator of a butcher's shop and bakery, contributed around 400 rolls, sausages and drinks, especially for the emergency services.

"If help is needed, you just have to help," said the Ebenhausen resident, whose colleague had immediately fired up the oven.

"It's probably a drop in the ocean, but maybe it helped a little."

Some local residents were also startled.

They reported a loud bang and a loud beep.

Then it smelled burned, said a man.

Deutsche Bahn (DB), as the operator of the S-Bahn, expressed its regret on Monday.

“Our deepest sympathy goes to the families of the victims of the accident.

We wish the injured a speedy and full recovery,” said Heiko Büttner, head of the Munich S-Bahn.

In addition, the railway set up a telephone hotline.

From 7.30 p.m. she should be available on 0800 3 111 111.

The Ebenhausen-Schäftlarn train station is on the S7 route to Wolfratshausen.

The route was closed between Großhesselohe Isartalbahnhof and Wolfratshausen, and buses were used.

In August, not far from the scene of the accident, there was already a near-collision.
