After the Kashrut law was passed, while the conversion law was gaining momentum, and against the background of reports in the coalition discussions on passing a law on civil marriage - which was perceived as an attempt to change the Jewish character of the state - next week a special lobby in the Knesset will strengthen the traditional character of state institutions.
The lobby will be headed by MKs David Amsalem and Miri Regev from the Likud, and Ofir Sofer from Religious Zionism.
The members of the lobby intend to bring to the forefront familiar figures from the fields of culture and academia who will talk about the need to preserve the traditional aspect.
In the political system, the lobby, which is expected to cause a great deal of noise upon its establishment, is called the "Second Israel Lobby."
The lobby's basic document states: "The lobby will operate with all the parliamentary tools at its disposal, and at the disposal of its members, in order to promote the values of Judaism and tradition in state institutions and in the public sphere, whether through legislation, regulations, monitoring government decisions and more. "More, all while striving to reach as broad agreements as possible, out of good will and with the aim of preserving the status quo that has been practiced in Israel for decades."
"Uprooting the tradition"
MK David Amsalem: "The government joins the Islamic movement and uproots the roots, values and Jewish tradition.
"This serious situation we found ourselves in will lead to the elimination of the Jewish state, literally, and for that, every Jew who fears for the fate of the state must act and change the situation."
MK Miri Regev: "There are many democracies around the world, but only one state that is a Jewish and democratic state.
The uniqueness of the State of Israel is that it is a Jewish state.
We must not fall apart from our values, from our identity, from our character, from the same tradition and longings that have preserved us for 2,000 years of exile.
That brought us back to our city of Jerusalem, our united capital. "
MK Ofir Sofer: "The purpose of the lobby is to strengthen the Torah of Israel and the Jewish tradition.
"In this period, when religion and tradition have become vulgar words and anti-Jewish forces are operating in the government that want to eliminate any connection between Judaism and the State of Israel and work to make Israel a state of all its citizens - this lobby is necessary."
The Likud "Zion and Jerusalem" forum, chaired by Adv. Avichai Boaron, will accompany the lobby: "Judaism is the heart of the Jewish people and of the entire State of Israel.
We are proud of her and do not hide her.
I invite all Knesset members to join the lobby. "
