Moscow, SANA- First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations Dmitry Polyansky warned of the possibility of preparing

Russia's first deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyansky, warned of the possibility of preparing the United States or its allies for a serious provocation in Ukraine.

Asked about Washington's goal of creating hysteria about the "Russian invasion," TASS quoted Polyansky as saying, "I think this is a distraction in an attempt to divert attention from our most important concerns to some minor issues related to Ukraine, which may not seem trivial, but in terms of security issues." For my country, it is definitely not important.”

"This is one of the assumptions...but there is another very dangerous possibility, as the United States or its allies may actually plan for some kind of provocation with the participation of Ukrainian forces on the line of contact," he added, noting that "we are not only talking about the Ukrainian army, but about the nationalists and volunteers with Far-right views who are not under the Kiev authorities and have their own leaders and behavior.”

Polyansky reiterated that Russia was not planning to invade Ukraine and said, "Moscow has no reason to take this step, and these allegations are absolutely absurd and strange."

In turn, the Russian ambassador to Canada, Oleg Stepanov, warned that the decision of the Canadian authorities to provide lethal weapons to Ukraine will only exacerbate the conflict, explaining that "any arms supply to a country suffering from an unresolved internal armed conflict is unacceptable."

He stressed that this does not help bring peace, but rather prolongs and exacerbates the fratricidal conflict in Ukraine, "by providing weapons, Western countries push the "Kiev regime" to continue the war against its people."

On behalf of Russia, Stepanov called on the Canadian government “to stop such actions and use its own influence instead to influence the Kiev authorities to bring them to the negotiating table with Donetsk and Lugansk and encourage them to fully and unconditionally implement the Minsk package of measures.”

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced yesterday that his country had decided to supply Ukraine with lethal weapons worth 7.8 million Canadian dollars.
