In the shadow of tensions between Ukraine and Russia and following Putin's declaration that his country is not interested in war, President Joe Biden is now speaking (Tuesday) in the White House and updating on recent developments.
"The president will give brief remarks that will provide an update on Russia and Ukraine," the White House said.
"He will repeat that the United States is open to diplomacy."
Russia has deployed more than 130,000 troops near Ukraine's border in recent weeks, according to U.S. estimates, raising concerns among Western and Ukrainian intelligence officials that the invasion could approach. Stressed that major military exercises would continue.
Speaking at a joint news conference with German Chancellor Olaf Schultz, Putin said: "Russia is ready to take confidence-building measures and discuss with the West a range of issues included in Russia's demands, despite the fact that the West has refused to accept Russia's demands to stop NATO enlargement. "To the former Soviet Union and stop supplying weapons that reach Russia's borders."
