The Russian Ministry of Defense announced the arrival of MiG-31K fighters and Tu-22M bombers to the Hmeimim base in Latakia, as part of the Russian naval exercises.
In a statement published on the Russia Today website, the ministry said, "Russian MiG-31K fighters carrying Kinzhal hypersonic missiles and Tu-22M launchers have arrived at the Hmeimim base in Latakia, to participate in the Russian naval exercises in the eastern part of the Mediterranean."
Russia has been participating in the war on terrorism alongside the Syrian Arab Army since September 2015 at the request of the Syrian Arab Republic.
