Dr. Sunny, Director of the PolyU MCG Program, believes that professional managers need to keep pace with the times. Understand that corporate governance is increasingly focusing on sustainable development: "In the past, corporate governance focused on maximizing the interests of all stakeholders, but now it is not enough. Sustainable development needs to be taken into account. According to the definition of the United Nations World Commission on Environment and Development, sustainable development Development refers to a development model that meets current needs without compromising the next generation, and involves three major areas: economy, environment and society.”

Under the influence of COVID-19, society and even individuals need to adapt to the new normal, and digitalization is the new development of enterprises.

Sunny pointed out that companies need to incorporate applied technology into their business models, but not every company can successfully transform. To make society and companies survive better, the participation of professionals is essential.

She emphasized that education not only imparts knowledge, but also cultivates students' thinking and sense of responsibility: "Our students should not only possess skills, but also play an exemplary role as the 'gatekeepers' of enterprises and society."

Dr Bruce, MCG Programme Manager at PolyU pointed out, "In today's age, managing a company is no longer limited to achieving profitability goals, but also requires 'corporate social responsibility' for the company, society and the environment. Recently, an accountant has The survey report published by the firm shows that many listed companies also disclose measures to address climate issues, which shows that ESG has become more and more important.”

Graduates gain self-confidence through course-inspired thinking

Zhang Bing, a graduate of the MCG course, is currently the Chief Financial Officer of a US dollar private equity fund.

Zhang Bing, a graduate of CPA, has worked in the Big Four accounting firms and listed companies, and is now the CFO of a US dollar private equity fund.

Zhang Bing, who has worked for about 15 years, pointed out that the reason for enrolling in PolyU’s MCG programme was to seek further career development: “When working in a listed company, I found that a pure accounting background is not sufficient to meet the extensive needs of the CFO position of listed companies, including handling listings. In terms of regulations and company secretarial work, I realized that the knowledge accumulated in the past may not be enough, and the idea of further education was born.”

Zhang Bing was introduced by an old colleague and learned that the design and content of the PolyU MCG curriculum, teaching level and teachers are very outstanding, so he decided to enroll.

She described the content of the course as down-to-earth, which helped her to think from multiple perspectives, and was more inspiring. It could be applied to current work decisions, and she was more confident than ever before: "Currently, the company's business involves investing in listed companies, and it needs to be represented at any time. Being a non-executive director of a listed company involves decision-making. The content learned in the course is very practical and can better provide advice on important decisions.”

Since its inception in 2004, the PolyU MCG programme has cultivated more than 1,000 graduates and has a strong alumni network, providing opportunities for students and alumni to communicate and share the latest industry information.
