In a statement, NSW Police said emergency services were called to Buchan Point, where Little Bay Beach is located.
This was after receiving the report that a shark bit a swimmer.
The statement adds that the agents went to the scene and found human remains in the water.
Unfortunately, the person suffered catastrophic injuries as a result of the bite that turned out to be fatal.
