Baden-Württemberg's FDP parliamentary group leader Hans-Ulrich Rülke assumes that the Bundestag will decide on an opening clause for the states to maintain the mask requirement for the period after March 20th.

"The FDP's position is that all measures restricting fundamental rights will expire on March 20," Rülke told the German Press Agency in Stuttgart on Wednesday.

Stuttgart – But he added that an opening clause had to be created for the federal states “in order to be able to order the mask requirement if necessary”.

Rülke, who is also a member of the FDP presidium, can also imagine that tests will continue in schools after March 20th.

"You can't have anything against testing."

Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) and numerous prime ministers - including Baden-Württemberg's head of government Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) - are pushing for the legal basis, which expires on March 19, to be extended at least for certain corona requirements.

If the coalition of SPD, Greens and FDP does not bring about a new resolution in the Bundestag on the Infection Protection Act, the states will no longer have the opportunity to enact corona protection measures - they will then no longer be able to prescribe the wearing of masks.

The topic should also play a major role at the Prime Ministers' Conference this Wednesday.

Rülke said it was clear to the FDP that the contact restrictions had to expire, and that there should no longer be any curfews.

In addition, the 2G and 3G rules would then have to be abolished, and there should no longer be viewer restrictions for public events.
