Stoffen - "You have been committed to our country far beyond the usual level and made significant contributions to the public good" - Prime Minister Markus Söder wrote to Josef Ettner.

On his behalf, District Administrator Thomas Echinger has now awarded Ettner the Federal Republic's highest award for services to the common good: the Federal Cross of Merit.

Exceptionally, the award was presented after a service.

"But that fits perfectly," said the leader of the Vilgertshofen-Stoffen parish community, Father Joaquim.

After all, Ettner showed himself to be a committed, always ready-to-go Christian who had served the parish for almost 40 years as a parish priest and sacristan.

Despite his tireless commitment, he never hesitated to speak critical and clear words when he considered it appropriate with regard to the parish and the church.

Ettner has already received several awards for his achievements, says Eichinger.

Ettner is an honorary member and honorary marksman in the Schützenverein Stoffen and in the Schützengau Landsberg, holder of the Golden Gams of the Bavarian Schützenbund, bearer of the silver badge of honor of the municipality of Pürgen and the badge of honor of the Bavarian Prime Minister as well as the Ulrich Cross in gold of the Augsburg Diocese.

Ettner's advice was asked for in many projects, his commitment was exemplary - for example as a skilled negotiator when it came to the creation and organization of the Vilgertshofen-Stoffen parish community and the procurement of the necessary financial resources.

This included the refurbishment, renovation and conversion of the vicarage, the general refurbishment of the organ, the renovation of the Swedish chapel and also the exterior and interior renovation of the parish church and the purchase of a new bell.

Ettner's special concern was the new building of the Schützenheim, as well as the youth work in the club.

Pürgen's Mayor Wilfried Lechler and Deputy Mayor Simon Bernauer congratulated.

According to Lechler, Ettner always remained “Sepp”.

For decades he had rendered outstanding service to the church and community.

And has become, for example, for democratic citizen awareness.
