A detainee from the Fleury-Mérogis remand center was sentenced on Friday to 16 months in prison for setting fire to his cell at the end of January and injuring three prison officers as well as his fellow prisoner, according to the Évry prosecution contacted on Wednesday February 16 by the AFP.
This conviction was accompanied by a warrant of committal.

The 20-year-old man has been imprisoned since May 2021 for aggravated theft and for violence against a person holding public authority, said the Évry prosecution.
He was tried on Friday in an immediate appearance before the criminal court.

Regarding the motive of the facts, the person concerned mentioned having been unhappy with the assignment in his cell of a new fellow prisoner
", explained the prosecution.

On January 28, the fire in the cell, located in the men's quarters, on the third floor of the largest remand prison in Europe, had caused several injuries.
The two detainees had been transferred to the hospital, without their vital prognosis being engaged, according to the story of the firefighters at the time of the events.
Three prison officers were also injured, including one severely in the knees and back of the legs, by backsplash, the interregional directorate of prison services and the prosecution also told AFP.
