This is the fourth earthquake this year in the north - and the Knesset's Research and Information Center mentions a recently published document that revealed that during the years of implementation of the TMA 38 plan - only 1,337 buildings were strengthened and protected from 1.7% of the required buildings throughout the country. % Of the buildings that have been strengthened and protected are in the Tel Aviv and Central districts, and about 5% in the northern and southern districts

. Partial and missing and there is no orderly mapping of these buildings, but general assessments regarding the potential of the buildings at risk only, based on the year of construction of the building and the number of floors in it, but these are the assessments currently available by government bodies.

According to estimates by the Inter-Ministerial Steering Committee for Earthquake Preparedness, in the event of a strong earthquake, in addition to injuries, about 28,600 buildings may be destroyed or severely damaged (damage of at least 45% of the building value), and another 290,000 buildings may be damaged. Mild or moderate (damage of 20% -5% of the building value).

Recently, at the launch of Tarua Cave, Prof. Zohar Gvirtsman, director of the Geological Survey, reiterated that the warning system does not replace the need to strengthen old structures and build new ones according to the Earthquake Resistance Standard.

"Only strengthening buildings and durable construction can prevent buildings from collapsing," he stressed.

The probability of earthquake damage and the extent of damage that may be caused in such a scenario vary between different areas of the country, depending on the degree of their vulnerability to earthquakes: localities close to the Syrian-African rift - ie, along the Arava, Dead Sea Valley, Kinneret Valley,
