Young entrepreneur Andreas Schröder from Oberammergau lost the hall he had rented for his car detailing.

Now the 27-year-old is on the brink of collapse because he can't find a new place for his company.

Oberammergau - Young companies don't have it easy.

You have to assert yourself against the competition and first make a name for yourself.

The Corona crisis, which threw a spanner in the works for many self-made entrepreneurs, made things even more difficult in the last two years.

In the case of Andreas Schröder from Oberammergau (Garmisch-Partenkirchen district), however, there are other circumstances that make the 27-year-old fear for the future of his car detailing.

Local young entrepreneur is on the brink of extinction - because nobody has a place for him

At the age of 21, Andreas Schröder founded the "Auto Auffertigung Oberammergau" in Oberammergau.

He received his customers in a rented hall with a washing area and a lifting platform, until his landlord gave him notice last summer for no reason, as Schröder says.

"I wasn't even allowed to empty the hall myself," he says in an interview with Merkur.de.

Since then he has stored all his equipment with friends.

"I've been looking for a hall since then," says Schröder, who doesn't want to lose his 15 regular customers.

In recent years, the young entrepreneur has built up a customer base that stretches as far as Starnberg and Tutzing.

Upper Bavarian young entrepreneur hopes to find a hall soon

Schröder and his three employees are now trying to bridge the time until a new hall is found by offering their services on the go.

There are inquiries, but that is not for the long term.

The weather often throws a spanner in the works for the car detailer.

"It puts a lot of strain on me," said the 27-year-old.

On peak days he could take care of up to six cars in his hall.

Three or four is normal.

But without their own hall, there are even fewer.

Schröder has already looked at several halls in Oberammergau and the surrounding area, but a rental agreement has never been concluded.

"Often the landlords still need the hall themselves or they don't want a car detailer." Schröder hopes to have found a hall by the time the season really picks up speed again in April.

A large tent or pavilion would only be an emergency solution.

His dream would be to one day do car detailing as a full-time job.

"It's not working at the moment because there aren't enough customers yet," explains the young entrepreneur, who currently works 40 hours a week for a company in the logistics sector.

Oberammergau Mayor would like to help

Because he didn't know what to do himself, Schröder sought a conversation with Andreas Rödl, the mayor of Oberammergau.

"He would like to help, but he can't at the moment," Schröder summarizes the result.

When asked by

Merkur.de

, Rödl confirmed that he would like to help the young entrepreneur.

The community is currently looking for additional space.

"We are in contact with the authorities and hope to be able to identify something soon," explains Rödl.

"Are dependent on local companies" - but designation of new areas takes time

However, this does not happen immediately, even if the mayor would prefer that.

"We currently have several people looking for a hall, but unfortunately we have to put everyone off," says Rödl.

"I can't say when the time will come, because authorities have to be involved and nature conservation issues often have to be clarified." But he understands Schröder and other entrepreneurs well, he says, and he's always sorry when citizens come to him with such problems.

At the moment he can only help by providing contacts and giving tips when he hears that a hall in the area is being rented.

"We can't do much, because that's private placement," says Rödl.

He definitely wants to keep the entrepreneurs on site.

"We depend on local companies."

The young entrepreneur is very attached to his homeland - a change of location would be the last resort

The young entrepreneur Schröder was already thinking about building his own hall.

"A hall would be set up quickly, but the price of the property is lacking," he says.

A change of location is probably the last resort for him.

"I built my dream here," says the native of Oberammergau, who has been active in the local volunteer fire brigade for 15 years and is very attached to his home town.

What particularly appeals to him about preparing cars?

“You can see the results of his work extremely.

The customers are amazed, some even cry, when they see the difference before and after - that motivates them."
