An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.8 hit the southern Fiji Islands early Thursday local time, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The quake struck at a depth of around 528 km, USGS data showed.
"Based on the depth of the earthquake, a tsunami is not expected," the USGS said.
There is also no tsunami threat on the west coast of the United States, Alaska or British Columbia, he explained.
Hawaii also does not expect any tsunami threats, according to a tweet from the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency.
