The Consumer Council has filed a motion to join a class action lawsuit against the Shufersal retail chain, alleging misleading consumers.
Buyers who purchased on the Shufersal Online website were surprised to find that they were required to pay the full price without the promised discounts, claiming that the delivery date was after the coupons expired.
If that wasn’t enough, in some cases consumers who wanted to redeem the coupons had to increase their purchase to get the discount.
After the discount was canceled following the expiration of the coupon, the number of products was not reduced.
That means buyers did not receive a discount and were forced to buy more than they needed to.
The Consumer Council stated: "In light of the fact that Shufersal has previously filed additional class actions on similar grounds, we take this violating conduct seriously, raising the concern that this is a systematic policy that violates the law that harms the consumer public in Israel."
"The large number of complaints indicates that consumers are not at all aware of the warning on the company's website," says Ofer Feinstein, CEO of the Consumer Council. It is aware that this policy is misleading its customers. "
Shufersal stated: "Shufersal will respond to the allegations in court."
