Bad Tölz/Vorderriß - "Corona has slowed us down" says AWO chairwoman Camilla Plöckl.

In an interview, she reports on the current and future situation of the local association.

The Tölz local association of workers' welfare (AWO), like many other associations, does not have it easy because of the corona pandemic: Since larger events are not possible, the holiday home in Vorderriß can only be occupied to a limited extent and generates less money.

Ms. Plöckl, is the local association making ends meet despite the pandemic?

“In principle, we are doing the same as the youth hostels: We have to nibble financially.

We can only be glad that we have sponsors who support us.

Also, that the state forests gave us the lease for one year – the state forests own the property on which the holiday home in Vorderriß is located.

There were also two bridging aids from the state.

If it hadn't existed, we would have had real problems.

There are also a few reserves left.”

How is the situation in the holiday home?

"We are allowed to occupy the rooms, but only with ten people if they are older than 14 years.

Some groups have therefore canceled.

There are no school trips.

We hope that our regular guests will remain loyal to us.

We need them and are eternally grateful to them.”

Which groups rent the holiday home?

“Primarily youth groups come, but also AWO senior groups.

Some of the people are already 90 years old.

The house is very popular and well-known because it is a self-catering house and it is surrounded by nature.

38 people have space in it.

Everything is prepared and disinfected, then people get the key.”

Can the house also be rented for family celebrations?

"It used to be possible, now we don't do it anymore.

We have had very bad experiences with it.”

What happened?

“There are people who made a fire back there.

Although the house rules expressly state that this is not allowed because the nature reserve has been expanded.

This is a sensitive subject.

If fire is made, the Isarranger will come.

People can have a barbecue.

We have a nice outdoor grill.”

Have you often had problems with open fireplaces?

“There have been isolated cases.

There are always a few goofs, but 99 percent of the guests do well.

We have a lot of home groups who appreciate being able to get out there in the great outdoors.”

How hard was it for the AWO local association that the Tölzer Christkindlmarkt was canceled?

"If we don't have any income there, it will be difficult for us.

We'll take care of the ticket sales.

Ten social institutions are attached to it – kindergartens and schools.

Something always comes in, what is left is poured out.

We were ready to start and were happy that it was finally starting again.

And then the Christmas market is canceled for the second time in a row.

Of course we understand the reason for the cancellation.”

Where did you store the unneeded profits - is the holiday home filled to the brim with it?

(laughs) “No, the small prices go through the Tourist Info.

The other prizes will only be claimed when we know for sure that the Christmas market is taking place.

Apart from that, I canceled my participation in the Christmas market in good time.

After all, we have to buy things.

What am I going to do without a Christmas market with 400 liters of mulled wine?”

What projects have you planned for the future?

“We intend to offer a driving service for older people.

But there are still many things to be clarified - for example, what about the driver's license.

In general, we have to think about how we can reposition ourselves.

For example, we could try to organize a small summer party.

Or bring in a little money with small events.

But all this is not possible at the moment.

We already offer a mobile social assistance service for two people.”

What does the support service do?

"There are a lot of people who don't have anyone.

First they have to run around and buy things.

Then they have to lug things home.

Or they need someone to take them to the doctor.

It would be nice if you could give people a little help.

A lot of them just need someone to talk to them a bit.”

Do you have any other plans?

"I just went through all the paperwork from earlier.

It's really quite interesting what they did there.

They used to offer family camps, for example.

If you have a few people who have good ideas, then something will come of it.”

What about recruiting members?

“We will step up our membership work, Corona has totally slowed us down.

There was nothing we could do about it.

So we had time to collect ideas and prepare things.

As soon as it's allowed again, we'll be able to hit the ground running."
