The military tension, the readiness and the fear in Ukraine of Russia's invasion of its territory are also reflected in the Israeli diplomats in the country.

Yoav Bistritzky, Israel's Deputy Ambassador to Ukraine, spoke this morning (Thursday) on 103FM about the potential for explosiveness in the country and said that it is impossible to say that there is a decrease in the possibility of violent incidents in the region.

He called on Israelis in Ukraine "to leave the country now. We think that in the coming days and weeks, an event that is unusual can certainly happen here."

Bistritzky said that "in recent days there has been a slight increase in tension and a sense of urgency, also within Ukraine and on the streets. There are far fewer cars, less traffic of people, at the same time, it's true, writers are full, restaurants are working, the airport is open. It can be called a waiting period. "

According to Bistritzky, the embassy continues to work and provides a solution to thousands of Israelis who need assistance.

"So far, in the last week, 2,500 Israelis have returned to Israel," said the deputy ambassador.

"The pace is definitely low. We would like to see more Israelis leaving Ukraine. We also call on them to leave."

He added that "we feel the situation is tense, and we do some kind of situation assessments every day, every hour, and try to understand where it is going. At the moment, we do not see any calm or de-escalation in the area here."

It is estimated that about ten thousand more Israelis remain in the country.

A senior Israeli source said Israel wanted to make sure that in the event of a Russian invasion of Ukraine it would have ways to create humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of its citizens and diplomats by land to neighboring countries, or by air.

Israel has set up an alternate diplomatic mission in the western Ukrainian city of Lvov near the border with Poland in case the embassy in Kiev needs to be evacuated due to the fighting.

The Foreign Ministry also prepared a plan to evacuate Israeli citizens by land to Poland, Romania, Moldova, Hungary and Slovakia.

Contacts with these countries have already begun.
