Reaction to legalizing abortion in case of rape 3:22

The National Assembly of Ecuador approved, with 75 votes in favor, the project for the interruption of pregnancy in case of rape.

If the Executive Branch promulgates it, the law establishes a term for abortion of 12 weeks of gestation for adult women and 18 weeks for minors who have suffered sexual violence.

The approved bill will go to the president of Guillermo Lasso who could partially or totally approve or veto it.

At the end of January, the Legislative Assembly of Ecuador began the second debate on the bill for the voluntary termination of pregnancy in the event of rape.

The text promotes the regulation of the practice of abortion in case of rape, which has been legal in Ecuador since 2021.
