For a week now, you no longer have to be vaccinated or recovered to have your hair cut.

A current rapid test also allows people who have not been vaccinated to visit a hairstylist again.

Hairdressers are relieved about the easing, but criticize the previously applicable 2G regulation.

District of Weilheim-Schongau

– In order to have your hair cut by Birgit Binder, you have to wait up to two weeks at the moment.

Before that, the master of the hairdressing guild of the Oberland does not have an appointment in her studio in Seehausen.

"I'm fully booked with overtime," she says.

"Right now I start earlier and finish later every day."

The 3G rule has been in effect in all Bavarian hairdressing studios since last Wednesday.

This means that people who are neither vaccinated nor recovered can go to the hairdresser again.

All they need is a recent test.

And the relaxation had an effect.

"More and more customers are coming with proof of testing," says Birgit Binder.

"I never thought I would be so happy with 3G."

According to the 52-year-old, the 2G regulation, which has been in place since November 24, was "a disaster".

The customers stayed away.

"Before Christmas, I had crying colleagues on the phone who told me that they had never had such bad Christmas business," says Binder.

She feels reminded of last year's winter.

"2G was almost like lockdown."

No high risk of infection for hairdressers

Binder is critical of the 2G regulation for her industry.

"It has been proven that there is no high risk of infection among hairdressers," she says.

Although hairdressers work very closely with the customer.

"I don't know of any colleagues who got infected at work," Binder continues.

Hair stylists are now true hygiene professionals.

"There's nothing we don't disinfect."

Now that everyone can come to the hair salon again, Binder has had to fix many a haircut that went wrong.

"What else could people have done but cut their own hair at home?" she asks.

"They don't smell like they're coming." Binder complains that there were two classes with 2G.

With regard to the autumn, she fears that a similar scenario could threaten again.

"But I hope that the virus will continue to weaken, because actually I can't hear the whole thing anymore."

Nicole Kergl also hopes that “the whole circus will finally come to an end”.

The 50-year-old master hairdresser is the owner of Haar Raffinessen in Weilheim.

"We need to get back to normal," she says.

Due to the 2G regulation, many of their customers stayed away.

"That was difficult for us." 3G is now easier and more pleasant for everyone.

Since last week, the picker and her team have been able to take noticeably more inquiries.

“Even with 3G not everything is good now”

Kergl hopes that her salon will be spared the 2G rule in the future.

She felt the restriction was unfair.

"I am pleased that unvaccinated customers are coming back to me," says Kergl.

"Basically, I'm happy about all customers." In order to have your hair cut, you currently have to wait up to a week at Haar Raffinesse.

Master hairdresser Nicole Resch has been running the Schongauer Color Bar for 18 years. She had to accept significant losses as a result of 2G.

"And even with 3G, not everything is good now," she says.

Although a lot more customers are coming - at the moment you have to wait between two and three weeks for an appointment - but the distance rule of 1.50 meters still applies.

As a result, Resch can only serve 25 percent of potential customers.

"In the saloon, the sinks are just too close together," she says.

She hopes that the distance rule will fall soon.

“In gastronomy, people sit together without a mask.

And we work here with FFP2 and distance.” In the two years of the pandemic, there was no corona case in her salon either.

"We haven't received a single call from the health department in all this time."

Exclusion due to 2G regulation burdensome

The 2G regulation and the associated exclusion was not right for them.

People who weren't vaccinated could buy clothes, "but they smell like cabbage and turnips on their heads," she says.

Politicians should think about what it does to you psychologically if you can no longer take care of your appearance.

"It has now also been seen that it does not act as a means of pressure." According to Resch, anyone who consciously decides against vaccination would also go through with it - regardless of whether they are allowed to go to the hairdresser or not.
