Extensive corona easing planned in Austria: What will apply to travel in the next few weeks

Most of the Corona measures in Austria will soon be lifted.

Austria is gradually relaxing its corona measures - from the beginning of March almost all of them should then be eliminated.

What to consider when traveling in the near future.

More and more countries are in relaxation mode: whether Denmark*, Sweden, the Netherlands or Switzerland – they all announce a “Freedom Day”, i.e. a day on which (almost) all corona measures are to be lifted.

Austria is also daring to relax more - the government announced a gradual plan * at the end of January.

But that shouldn't be enough.

On February 19, Austria will enter phase 3 of its phased easing plan.

Then, in the vast majority of areas where the 2G rule previously applied, the

The following settings are affected:

• in cable cars, on bus trips and on excursion boats

• in gastronomy and accommodation establishments

• in physical services

• in sports facilities

• at events and trade fairs

The measures of the 3rd phase apply in Austria until March 4th.

Then almost all corona measures should be lifted, as Chancellor Karl Nehammer announced on February 16 after talks between the federal government and the state leaders and experts.

From

• The access regulations are no longer

• Person limits are abolished,

• the night gastronomy is allowed to open again,

• the general curfew is omitted and

• the obligation to wear masks only applies in essential trade, e.g. in supermarkets, banks or pharmacies, as well as on public transport.

  In all other closed rooms there is only one recommendation to wear an FFP2 mask.

The entry requirements for Austria are also to be relaxed in the coming days, on February 22nd.

There is an exception for entry from virus variant areas.

So far, vaccinated and those who have recovered have also had to present a negative PCR test or proof of a booster vaccination in order to be allowed to enter the country without quarantine.

Unvaccinated people must fill out the entry form and go into self-isolation for ten days - with the possibility of free testing from the fifth day.
