Today, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that the ships and boats of the Caspian Sea Fleet began planned military exercises.
The ministry said in a statement carried by RIA Novosti news agency that 20 warships of the fleet are participating in the maneuvers, including the missile ship "Dagestan", small missile boats, small artillery ships, basic minesweepers and support ships.
The crews of the fleet ships will work on joint procedures for sailing in a single path, repelling the means of air attack of an imaginary enemy, and conducting mock naval combat.
According to the Russian Armed Forces Training Plan 2022 in the period from January to February, a series of naval exercises will be conducted in all areas of responsibility of the fleets under the supervision of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy.
The main focus of these maneuvers is to determine the actions of the Navy and Space Forces to protect Russia's national interests in the global ocean, as well as to confront military threats to Russia from sea and ocean directions.
The exercises cover the waters of the seas bordering the Russian territory, as well as operationally important areas in the global ocean, with more than 140 warships and support vessels, more than 60 aircraft, 1,000 units of military equipment and about 10,000 soldiers participating from all Russian fleets.
