My Wedding Stories - The new expansion pack for The Sims 4 (Photo: Official Website, EA)
EA last week announced the new My Wedding Stories expansion pack for The Sims 4, which focuses on wedding planning for a couple of LGBT women - Dominic and Camille, and created a storm on the net
. Claiming that content focusing on an LGBT couple violates state laws designed to "preserve modern family values."
This statement angered the Russian cast, who argued that the decision was considered delusional, mainly because the country's laws were intended to prevent children from being exposed to LGBT content - and are irrelevant in a game like The Sims 4, rated in Russia as a game for 18-year-olds only.

The Russian cast decided to appeal the decision and launched a petition that reached over 10,000 signatures - prompting EA to back away from the original decision and release the expansion pack at a later date.
This is the statement as made on the official EA website: "Last week we unveiled the My Wedding Stories expansion pack, and at the same time decided to skip the game release in Russia because we believed we could not release a game in the country whose plot focuses on a LGBT couple.
" Of the players, for their support and concern for community members.
It is important for us to maintain our values, including standing up against homophobia and being able to share these stories with the actors who are interested and need it.
"
We want the entire Sims community to celebrate together, and we'll globally launch the My Wedding Stories expansion pack on February 23, including in Russia,
While this is a win-win and great news for Sims players and the gay community in Russia, it's hard to wonder how a giant company like
EA would not have a battery of lawyers attached to explain and consult the laws in the country, thus preventing the incident.
"And the Sims community will continue to be a safe place for everyone."
