So that the bus gets through: The traffic committee of the city council has decided on a limited stopping ban in some streets in Dachau-Süd.

Dachau

– If you are heading out of town along Hermann-Stockmann-Strasse, you don’t want to switch places with the drivers of the city buses.

Because it is narrow, there is parking on both sides, so you have to stop and wait for oncoming traffic again and again.

It looks similar on Am Heideweg.

But soon the traffic on both roads will flow more smoothly.

Reciprocal limited stopping bans are intended to make it easier to get through.

The majority of the city councilors in the environment and transport committee have now spoken out in favor of this regulation.

City councilors in the Dachau traffic committee for a parking ban

The restriction commonly known as the “no parking” will apply on Hermann-Stockmann-Strasse out of town up to Oskar-von-Miller-Strasse.

On the Heideweg, regulation will apply from Moosstrasse to Am Rehsteig.

The committee had already extensively discussed the difficult traffic situation in the two streets last October (we reported).

At that time, the alliance for Dachau would have liked to see a resident parking zone examined for an area within Hermann-Stockmann-, Eduard-Ziegler-, Lorenz Scherer-, Josef-Scheidl- and Münchner Strasse.

Such regulated areas already exist in Dachau on both sides of the train station and at the hospital.

The city councilors of ÜB and FDP presented the changing, restricted parking ban in sections as cheaper, but just as effective, as it has now been decided upon by the city administration.

Traffic officer Volker C. Koch (SPD) found this proposal good in the fall.

Peter Strauch (CSU) was not at all convinced of any regulation.

Since traffic on Hermann-Stockmann-Strasse is "extremely slowed down", the street is "one of the safest in all of Dachau.

You can't drive fast there, and you don't want to drive fast there," he explained in the autumn.

Thomas Kress (Greens) did not like the idea of making traffic flow more smoothly there either.

Rather, "traffic jams are the safest traffic conditions," according to his statement in October.

As soon as the traffic started to flow better, Kress worried about the danger to cyclists.

By the way: everything from the region is also available in our regular Dachau newsletter.

Not all city councilors were convinced.

But the ban on stopping, which was restricted in sections, was passed by a nine-to-six vote.

However, the administration had also pointed out possible consequences in the meeting proposal: The new no-parking areas 40 to 43 on Hermann-Stockmann-Strasse and 28 to 30 on Am Heideweg will eliminate parking spaces.

As a direct consequence, which can also be read there, “the administration expects to move to the narrower side streets.

This could lead to some serious problems there."

The committee therefore discussed whether a resident parking zone in the area might not be useful or necessary.

But first we want to wait and see how things develop.

The new regulation is welcomed by the transport companies, who hope to be able to keep to the timetable better.

In any case, it will soon become clear how the situation will actually develop.

The city, according to the head of the main office, Josef Herrmann, is now immediately procuring the necessary signs, which are then to be installed immediately.
