When does the new Riviera start? Everything depends on the cash register of the city of Miesbach

Spring is coming to the fore with ever warmer temperatures, and this means that more and more people are drawn to the green spaces of the county seat.

One of them is particularly in focus this year: the Riviera.

As reported, the large green area between the town square and the federal highway 472 is to be upgraded this year after a large number of trees had to be removed in the course of combating the Asian long-horned beetle (ALB) in 2020.

As a result, the area has lost much of its shady ambience.

In a few weeks, the Riviera will be redesigned.

According to Mayor Gerhard Braunmiller, the schedule that has already been presented is still up to date: construction is to begin in April.

Areas for rest and outdoor fitness are planned.

Extensive features

All kinds of equipment are planned for this: steps, benches, hammocks, a slackline, an arm trainer that can also be used by wheelchair users, a drinking fountain for cyclists and walkers.

In addition, a water playground is planned, in which natural stones form a stream and water can be dammed with the help of steel elements.

Half-height bollard lights, which should be dimmable and equipped with motion sensors so that the insect-friendly LED light doesn't stay on all night, are also planned.

Barrier-free access

The greatest intervention, however, requires the barrier-free access on the B472, which is intended to enable the seniors of the neighboring retirement home in particular to access the lower-lying green area via an access that is only moderately inclined.

This new path should have a maximum gradient of six percent.

Expected costs of more than 600,000 euros

The costs for this are currently estimated at over 600,000 euros.

An amount that received criticism in the city council, and will ultimately be the sticking point.

"The project stands and falls with our budget," says Braunmiller.

The only exceptions to this are two planned devices for children: the floor trampoline and the pendulum seesaw.

Both have already been crowdfunded and are therefore not affected by the city council's budget decision.

In addition, a play ship for the new playground is already available and stored - ready for construction.

Braunmiller cannot yet make a forecast as to the chances of the redesign: “We are preparing the budget and will deal with it in March in the city council.” The topic will need patience for that long.
