The Greek authorities announced today that 11 people are missing and two others are trapped, after a fire broke out on board a ship sailing from Greece to Italy, with 288 people on board.
"The Euroferi Olympia, flying the Italian flag, was heading to the port of Brindisi when the fire broke out, near the island of Corfu," the Greek coast guard said in a statement. .
The statement indicated that three coast guard ships are participating in the rescue efforts to locate the 11 missing persons, while ten survivors were transferred to the hospital for treatment. The causes of the accident are still unknown, and no fuel leakage at sea has been detected.
