Two men arrested during demonstrations in front of the Guadeloupe University Hospital in January were sentenced on Wednesday by the Pointe-à-Pitre criminal court, we learned Thursday, February 17 from the local prosecutor's office, confirming information from RCI (Radio Caribbean International).

The two men aged 58 and 50 were sentenced, one to

“a citizenship course”

and the other to

“3 months suspended sentence as well as fines”

They were prosecuted for

“presumed violence and obstruction after the dismantling by the authorities of the CHU strike picket on January 10”

The first man had been arrested at the end of the morning, a few hours after the dismantling of the hospital picket, an emblematic place of the collective protest against the health pass and the vaccination obligation.

This arrest would have triggered the clashes that followed between demonstrators mobilized on the boulevard of the hospital, and police, clashes during which the second man had been arrested.
