A mother reports difficulties for her child of primary school age without a student card in accessing leisure facilities.

The Ministry of Culture explains how to solve it differently.

Bad Tölz – The frequently changing corona rules are a challenge for parents with children.

A mother from Bad Tölz regrets that there is no student ID for children of primary school age in Bavaria.

Because many leisure facilities would want to see proof of access from children between the ages of six and 13 or would insist on proof of regular tests at school.

"Student ID cards are only issued from grade five onwards," reports the mother of several children.

Some things are therefore very difficult to organize.

For example, she recently asked the employee of a leisure facility to bring the certificate with her as an "alternative".

"That went too far for us," reports the mother.

And after the pool tests at school, no test certificates would be issued for the children.

That's what the Ministry of Education says

"The student status can also be proven in other ways than by presenting a student ID card," said a press spokeswoman for the Ministry of Education when asked by a courier.

As an example, she cites “a suitable document for proof of age”, since in Germany school attendance is compulsory for every child from a certain age.

It is also possible to show a student ticket.

In addition, according to the spokeswoman, it is “not necessary for the students to credibly show that they actually tested negative during their school attendance”.

According to the ministry spokeswoman, elementary schools are not obliged to issue a student ID card.

However, individual solutions are found on site: the Tölzer Südschule offered ID cards for the first time this school year.

There are no known problems in the Tölz school authority

At the Tölz school authority, problems for elementary school children without ID "so far have not been an issue," says Marlis Peischer, spokeswoman for the district office.

However, it is regrettable if operators of leisure facilities do not take this into account.

From the point of view of the school authority, the issue of student ID cards in primary school is not necessary, Peischer continues.

However, if for other urgent reasons, such as for the health insurance company or for the parents' employer, proof of school attendance is required, a school attendance confirmation can be issued at all types of schools upon application by the parents.
