The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the Israeli occupation’s refusal of the United Nations investigation commission to enter Palestine is “illegal,” calling on the international community to support the commission’s work to achieve its tasks consistent with the mandate granted to it by the United Nations and international law and its references.

In a statement today, reported by Wafa Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of the work of the Permanent Commission of Inquiry, emanating from the Human Rights Council, which is charged with investigating all violations of international humanitarian law and human rights in the occupied Palestinian territory, including Jerusalem, headed by Navi Pillay.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected the frenzied campaign directed against the committee and the position of the Israeli entity in refusing to cooperate with it, noting that although this position is not legal, it was not surprising because the Israeli authorities do not abide by the rules of international law or the decisions of UN institutions and did not cooperate with any of the independent international bodies The investigation committees also prevented any official UN investigation delegation or from member states and even solidarity activists from reaching the occupied Palestinian territory, including Jerusalem, and even expelled many international officials and committees, including the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Temporary International Presence team in Hebron.

The Foreign Ministry pointed out that this new, old position expresses the Israeli occupation entity's fear of the work of these committees and exposing its ongoing crimes against the Palestinians, which leads to holding it accountable for them in accordance with United Nations standards.

Yesterday, the occupation authorities refused the entry of the United Nations Commission of Inquiry into Palestine to investigate the aggression on the besieged Gaza Strip last May.

On the 27th of last May, the United Nations Human Rights Council adopted a resolution to form an independent and permanent international commission of inquiry into the Israeli aggression and human rights violations committed in the occupied Palestinian territories since last April, and to make a recommendation to end impunity.
