The United States announced a deal to sell Poland 250 attack tanks worth six billion dollars.
The US State Department said in a statement that the deal "includes 250 Abrams attack tanks and related equipment, including 26 armored rescue vehicles, hundreds of heavy machine guns, equipment against mines and explosives, and thousands of munitions and auxiliary equipment," noting that it needs congressional approval.
The State Department claimed that the move would enhance the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a NATO ally.
And US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced the approval of the planned deal with his Polish counterpart, Mariusz Blaschak, whom he met this morning in Warsaw.
In recent weeks, the United States increased the supply of arms to Ukraine and deployed thousands of additional military personnel to Eastern Europe.
