The president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, asked the United Nations (UN) for support to install the International Commission Against Corruption and Impunity in Honduras (CICIH).
The Presidency of Honduras reiterated this Thursday in a statement the president's commitment to fight against corruption and impunity and added that with the support of the UN they hope to combat "both scourges that have done so much damage to the country."

presidential adviser, stated that the president issued instructions to guarantee respect for the human rights of former President Juan Orlando Hernández.
Hernández was detained this Tuesday due to an extradition request from the United States justice system, where he faces charges of drug trafficking.
Hernández has denied any relationship with drug trafficking, affirming that while he was president his government collaborated with the US in the fight against drug trafficking and organized crime.
Former President Hernández is detained at the National Directorate of Special Forces of the National Police in Tegucigalpa while his extradition trial is being carried out.
