Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced today that President Vladimir Putin has given an order to start exercises "strategic deterrence" of ballistic missiles.
Sputnik quoted Peskov as saying during a press conference that "the Russian President gave an order to launch these exercises and maneuvers related to the strategic deterrence of ballistic missiles... and he is observing the details of the military exercises with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko, which are important for both sides."
The Russian Defense Ministry stated earlier that the military strategic deterrence exercises were prepared, with the participation of the land and air forces of the southern region, in addition to the strategic missile forces, the Northern Sea Fleet and the Black Sea.
These exercises aim to verify the readiness of the military command and its various elements, in addition to the combat readiness of the naval forces and strategic missile launch forces.
