A stone's throw from Maidan Square, photos of the "
martyrs
" of the revolution dot the sloping street that leads to the presidential palace and parliament.
Simple laminated portraits or stone monuments, draped in blue and yellow ribbons - the colors of the Ukrainian flag - mark the locations where protesters were shot and killed.
Eight years ago to the day, February 20, 2014, was the deadliest day of the revolution that ousted pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych from power.
