The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating four hospitalizations of infants consuming Similac infant formula, according to a report released today (Sunday) in a number of media outlets in the United States.
In one case, the baby died.
Following this, the FDA issued a stern warning and called for the return of NMIL products from Similac, Elementum and Elker. The
products suspected of contamination were all made at the same plant located in Michigan in the United States. In Israel, it began to recall products in Israel following the publication.

"Because it is a product that serves as the sole source of nutrition for many of our country's infants, the FDA is very concerned about these reports of bacterial infections," said Frank Jans, FDA's Deputy Commissioner for Food and Response Policy.
"We want to reassure the public that we are working diligently with our partners to investigate complaints related to these products, while working to resolve this safety concern as quickly as possible."
