At the cabinet meeting today (Sunday), the government unanimously approved the candidate of the Ministry of Internal Security, Tafser Eyal Caspi, to replace Major Tafser Dedi Simchi as the National Commissioner of the Fire and Rescue Authority.
In addition, the government approved the appointment of Brigadier General (Res.) Gabi Portnoy to the position of head of the national cyber system, as well as the appointment of Moriah Shalom to the position of director of the Government Advertising Bureau (LPM).
The appointment of Tafser Caspi to the position symbolizes the first time in the history of fire and rescue in which a person who grew up in the PA and served in all positions was appointed to the position of commissioner.
Tafser Caspi enlisted in the Fire Brigade about 35 years ago and held a variety of positions in the PA. The National Operations Division, while carrying out strategic staff work to examine the existing in the Western world and adjust the deployment structure and formulation of the force building required for the fire and rescue system in Israel, innovative and professional, to deal with the required threats and challenges and apply disaster lessons.
Tafser Caspi established a national control center in the fire department, led its operation in operational, district and national activities, including international assistance.
Tafser Caspi also oversaw the writing of operating theories, operational orders and routine and emergency work procedures including transferring a national mission from the Ministry of Environmental Protection to the Fire and Rescue Department regarding holistic handling of hazardous materials incidents.

The Minister of Internal Security, Amar Bar-Lev, further stated in the government decision: "Today the government approved the appointment of Tafser Eyal Caspi as the next fire commissioner. This is important news for the organization that indicates the strength and maturity of the Israel Fire and Rescue Organization. "The fire brigade led by the outgoing commissioner, Major Dedi Simchi, along with its adaptation to the challenges of the future and dealing with the climate crisis and its implications for the fire and rescue forces."
