Bernie Madoff's sister, who was responsible for the largest Ponzi scheme in history, and her husband were found dead at their home in the state of Florida in the United States.
Police suspect the murder and suicide of 87-year-old Sondra Weiner and her husband, 90-year-old Marvin Weiner.
They were found shot and windless on Thursday at their home in the Palm Beach area.
Authorities said the cause of death would be determined by the district coroner.
Madoff, who suffered from health problems, died last year in a prison in the North Carolina town of Butner at the age of 82. The Jewish businessman pleaded guilty in 2009 to a series of $ 65 billion charges and embezzlement, for which the court sentenced him to 150 years in prison.
Madoff deceived investors at $ 17.5 billion, which was invested by customers, financiers and celebrities in the businesses he owns.
After admitting his actions, Madoff said he was "very sorry and ashamed".
Madoff's fraud program began in the early 1970s, during which some 37,000 people were deceived in 136 countries over four decades.
The businessman's activities continued until 2008, when he was arrested.
Among the victims of the businessman - director Steven Spielberg, actor Kevin Bacon, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Eli Wiesel and many others.
