The 2023 state election is looming on the horizon - and the CSU is under pressure.

Markus Söder could now react with a minister chair back.

Munich – Bavaria's state government could get a few new ministers this week: Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) apparently wants to rebuild his cabinet on Wednesday.

The dpa reports, citing parliamentary and government circles.

The plan seems to have gone quite far: According to the information, the CSU leader wants to inform his parliamentary group in the morning.

He could then appear in front of the press.

Söder's Bayern cabinet: reshuffle this week?

Tuesday session is cancelled

At the same time, those in the know are keeping a low profile, at least officially.

Initially, nobody wanted to officially confirm the cabinet reshuffle.

However, a government spokeswoman confirmed on request that the regular cabinet meeting scheduled for Tuesday was cancelled.

Over the past few weeks, there has been repeated speculation behind closed doors and in the media about the reorganization of the Bavarian cabinet.

It had always been said that Söder wanted to wait until the current omicron wave in Bavaria had passed its peak.

Markus Söder: CSU boss likes to make adjustments to the cabinet - most recently Huml had to give way

In the course of the Corona crisis, Söder had repeatedly thought about making new appointments - for example, in the meantime he had asked for fresh faces from the then Merkel government.

Ultimately, however, everything stayed the same there.

The controversial CSU Minister Andreas Scheuer also retained his office until the end of the legislative period.

In Bavaria, the prime minister has remodeled twice since the 2017 state elections.

At the beginning of 2020, Kerstin Schreyer (CSU) took over the Ministry of Transport from party friend Hans Reichhart;

Carolina Trautner then received her family ministry.

A good year ago there was also a CSU castling for the health department, which was so central in the pandemic.

Klaus Holetschek has held the scepter ever since, predecessor Melanie Huml switched to the State Chancellery as Minister for European Affairs after several flops.

It seems obvious that the possible reorganization is now an anticipation of the 2023 election campaign.

In Bavaria there will be elections next year - and the CSU can hardly be satisfied with the poll numbers.
