Lingnan University President Cheng Kwok-han will retire as the fourth non-renewed University President on 31 August next year

Following the announcement by HKUST President Shi Wei, CityU President Guo Wei and EdU University President Zhang Renliang to resign, Lingnan University also announced today (21st) that President Zheng Guohan will retire after his term expires on August 31st, 2023.

Zheng Guohan said that he was honored to work with like-minded colleagues to realize Lingnan's vision of becoming the world and Asia's leading liberal arts university, and was grateful for the guidance and support of the University Council and the Council.

Lingnan said that the school board has set up a selection committee to coordinate the appointment of the new president.

Chairman of the Lingnan University Council, Yiu Zuhui, thanked Cheng Guohan for his contribution to the development of Lingnan University. He pointed out that since Cheng took office as President in September 2013, Cheng has shown outstanding leadership and vision, leading the University to reach new heights in many aspects, including the promotion of excellence. Teaching, building a strong research culture, enhancing students' learning experience and achieving outstanding international achievements have made Lingnan a world-renowned liberal arts university.

Zheng Guohan said that with the joint efforts of all Lingnan people, Lingnan University is proudly leading the world with high-quality education and high-impact research.

He continued that by implementing the new 2022-28 strategic development plan, the university is well-positioned to achieve further success in the next six years.

He said it was an honor to work with like-minded colleagues to realize Lingnan's vision of becoming the premier liberal arts university in the world and in Asia, and he was grateful for the guidance and support of the University Council and the Council.
