The citizens' application by the Freie Wahler Gammelsdorf for a speed limit of 30 has failed.

Now they want to fight for more pedestrian protection in the village at district level.

Gammelsdorf

– Many people in Gammelsdorf are currently aiming to improve safety for pedestrians in the village and, above all, to improve the way to the new kindergarten.

A citizens' motion by Uwe Penner, the local chairman of the Free Voters, was recently well received by the municipal council, but could not be dealt with due to lack of responsibility.

The Gammelsdorfer will remain stubborn in the matter.

The citizens' application included two crossing aids on the main street in the center of town and at the junction into Friedrichstrasse.

This leads past the sports grounds and the new kindergarten, which is why Uwe Penner had applied for a limit of 30 km/h there.

"In terms of content, I am fully committed to the citizens' application by the Free Voters," said Mayor Raimunda Menzel at the municipal council meeting.

She showed the panel the results of the citizen's application.

One percent of the residents' signatures were needed - and that's 15 in Gammelsdorf. A total of 19 people had signed, which means that the condition was met as well as the formalities of the applicant.

District roads are in the decision-making area of the district

However, the mayor had to announce that the municipal council was not allowed to deal with the issue.

Both Hauptstrasse and Friedrichstrasse are district roads and therefore in the decision-making area of the district and its political bodies.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

FW local chairman Uwe Penner now has the opportunity to submit the application to the district council and to contact district councilors or the district administrator in his party.

At the same time, the mayor promised to fight for road safety improvements herself.

Menzel also made it clear that the children from the Gammelsdorf elementary school also use the gymnasium of the sports club on Friedrichstrasse.

Therefore, the protective measures would also affect the way to school.

Basically, the desire for improvements for pedestrians is not a completely new topic.

Raimunda Menzel explained that she had already addressed the topic at a traffic show, but the experts there did not see the need.

Among other things, a counter-argument was given that parked cars in the town center would automatically slow down traffic.

The head of the town hall asks the counter question: "Does something really have to happen first for something to happen with the measures?" Menzel now wants to be persistent so that the district deals with the wishes of the Gammelsdorfers.
