The fact that what is happening these days between Russia and Ukraine does not make sense, and is similar - apparently - to the TV series in which Volodymyr Zlansky played the role of his country president before he became his country president - does not mean that it will not happen.
The slow pace, which has the power to calm down, does not prevent the slaughter of the sword, the provocation that will "require" a response, the misunderstanding that will lead to violence.
But the fear of the black umbrella of Neville Chamberlain, with whom the British prime minister returned who believed the Nazi lunatic would settle for the Sudetenland, prevents rational decision-makers from making rational decisions because of the fear the other side is playing on a different pitch.
The great difficulty is understanding what the other really wants.
Rarely is this a logical dispute over a region of land, or over natural resources.
These are usually past memories (like those of Hafez Assad, who remembered as a child wading in the waters of the Sea of Galilee) or religious controversy, when one or both parties declare that they are sacred lands, which cannot be secularly compromised, and the decision passed to God.
Now we are all trying to understand what Vladimir Putin wants, since there was no Ukrainian provocation, and the one who annexed part of Ukraine's land (after a "referendum" of course) was Russia.
Is this really the fear of Ukraine joining NATO, even though Ukraine is not asking to join, and NATO is in no hurry to accept it?
Is this a way to divert attention from failures in domestic Putin policy?
Is this a paranoia that cannot be calmed down with logical explanations?
And what is the urgency?
What are these deadlines for last Wednesday, for next weekend?
What exactly needs to happen on these dates?
Exactly in the situations the world is now in, the international community tried to address after World War II.
This is the real test of international organizations.
A clash between the powers over Putin's claims will cost a fortune and pull the world back.
Accepting his demands could lead to a domino effect, and it frightens - rightly - countries like Taiwan that fear China's power move.
This will be the surrender of the democratic world to the authoritarian states, and it must not happen.
But the fear of returning home with a black umbrella should not justify a promiscuous policy at the Biden-Putin summit and a solution must be found.
In 1815 the Congress of Vienna knew how to calm the Europe of the Napoleonic Wars, even if its solutions were conservative in nature.
A formula in the spirit of postponing any decision regarding Ukraine's accession to NATO, along with other decisions on disarmament for mass destruction, may make the current crisis, following the leaders' summit, an opportunity that promises calm.
