The current conflict between Russia and Ukraine is of the kind of rare conflicts in which it is very clear who is the bad cause and who is the good cause.

There is no doubt that the Russian government has become accustomed to behaving like a thug in its neighborhood: after Georgia, the Crimea and countless other acts of aggression, Vladimir Putin is now trying to impose on the West the vision of unbridled imperialism while trampling entire nations.

This is a conduct that will probably not be stopped in Ukraine and may continue to radiate to the whole world in the coming years - if the world does not rise and put an end to it.

This simple truth, the need to issue a red card to Putin, is hardly expressed today in Israeli foreign policy, except for a weak statement by the Foreign Minister last night regarding the possible joining of sanctions.

Israel rightly refrains from expressing its political and moral opinion for a variety of compelling reasons such as Russia's large military presence in Syria, the large Jewish community still living in Russia, Moscow's influence on Arab countries and the Iranian nuclear project, and also because of Moscow's political and military power.

That is, the hands of Israel as a state are bound in this conflict for better or for worse.

But what the state cannot do today, the Israeli public can do clearly and even without much effort.

What did I mean?

Boycott products made in Russia or do not attend events related to it.

Thus, for example, in the next two months there will be performances by the Moscow Circus in Israel.

These are a variety of ice skating performances, especially in a large tent at the Ramat Gan stadium.

Boycotting products and refraining from visiting the circus is a good opportunity to express our opinion towards Moscow right where the government can not.

Point by point, non-attendance at circus performances will stand out greatly and express the public's disgust in the country with the Russian conduct, and will increase the effect inherent in a general avoidance of purchasing products made in Russia.

In fact, it is an easy and simple move that does not require any effort on our part.

This is not a demonstration in front of the Russian embassy in the country, nor an act that will change the day-to-day routine.

True, the circus artists or caviar makers are not Vladimir Putin, are not at the forefront of the peaceful citizens of Ukraine and are likely to be private businesses without any affiliation with the Kremlin.

And yet sometimes the necessity of protest obliges us as citizens to boycott factories or companies of a hostile state in order to eventually make the government pay a price for its savagery.

Every regime, even the most dictatorial, prefers and strives not to provoke unrest among its citizens.

For such unrest may in the end lead to revolution and exhaustion in power.

This is why it is worthwhile this time to boycott, among other things, the performance of the Moscow Circus and find a way to compensate those who initiated its arrival.

Contrary to the famous line from Kevin's song, not every show has to go on.

Were we wrong?

Fixed!
