Tesla: Further investigation

2022-02-21T04:39:03.955Z

The U.S. National Road Safety Authority has opened another investigation against Tesla, this time due to complaints about independent braking for no reason

The U.S. Road Safety Authority (NHTSA) is launching another investigation into Tesla car safety issues.

After investigating accidents caused by improper use of the main screen while driving and problems identifying rescue vehicles in the dark, these are now independent braking without the need that the car performs.

The American authority has received dozens of complaints in recent months regarding independent braking of the vehicle without it being necessary.

These are 354 complaints of Tesla 3 and Y models, which reported unexpected independent braking incidents of the vehicle.

Reports indicate that this is a rapid slowdown that can occur without warning and at random.

The investigation currently covers about 416,000 vehicles, and also includes tracking Tesla's transition from sophisticated and expensive auxiliary systems (which combine radar and cameras) to the company's newer system - Tesla Vision - which relies solely on cameras.

Since May 2021, Tesla has not installed radar sensors in its Model 3 and Model Y cars built for the North American market.

The said investigation will also examine the consequences of the said change.
