Esprit-Madeleine was baptized in Paris in 1665. She was the second child of Armande Béjart and Jean-Baptiste Poquelin.

Withdrawn from adolescence in a convent, this "little Alceste" had chosen silence.

And, on the stage of the Studio-Théâtre of the Comédie-Française, a scene that could not be more sober but of a beautiful elegance, Esprit-Madeleine is seated on a small bench;
a large mirror reflects her back.
