After an intense sequence of mediation which saw him, for three days, chaining repeated phone calls with Vladimir Putin, Volodymyr Zelensky, Joe Biden, Boris Johnson, Olaf Scholz or EU leaders, the crisis in Ukraine rocked with the announcement of the Russian president, Monday evening, that he recognizes the independence of the secessionist republics of Donetsk and Luhansk, in Donbass.
This is a setback for diplomacy and the risk of an open war in Ukraine.
In fact, in the wake of a last phone call to the Russian and Ukrainian presidents, the head of state convened a Defense and National Security Council on Monday evening, swapping the outfit of a diplomat for that of commander-in-chief.
