CHRONOLOGY – After almost eight years of a conflict frozen by the Minsk agreements but warmed up by months of acute crisis, Vladimir Putin crossed a new red line on Monday by recognizing the independence of Donetsk and Lugansk.

It was April 7, 2014, almost eight years ago.
