Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari stressed that the expansion of NATO to the east threatens not only Russia, but also many countries, which is why Moscow strongly rejected this.
Al-Jaafari said in an interview with Al-Suriah and Al-Ikhbariya channels that the events related to the People's Republics of Donetsk and Luhansk and Russia's declaration of recognition of their independence from Ukraine have to do with geopolitics, and therefore everyone is concerned about this matter.
Al-Jaafari added that Russian national security is a red line, and this is why Russia's recognition of the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics, pointing out that Syria, based on its principled positions, supports Russia's recognition of the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk republics, and that it had expressed, two months ago, its willingness to work on building relations with the two republics in the context of common interests.
