As-Suwayda-Sana
The areas planted with lentils in As-Suwayda have so far reached about 4290 dunums, with an implementation rate of 52 percent of the 8190 dunums plan.
The assistant director of agriculture in Sweida, Engineer Alaa Shehayeb, said in a statement to SANA reporter today that the cultivated areas so far are good, and their increase is contingent on rainfall during the coming days, which encourages the continuous cultivation of this crop during the current month and until the beginning of next month.
Shehayeb indicated that the Directorate of Agriculture encourages farmers to plant this crop within the appropriate sites for its cultivation due to its economic feasibility and the actual need for it in the local market.
The cultivation of lentils in As-Suwayda, which is considered rain-fed, is completely concentrated in the regions of Shahba, Al-Quraya and parts of the western As-Suwayda region.
