The number of deaths in a single day in the fifth wave of the new crown virus has reached a new high. The Hospital Authority announced today (22nd) that 39 new patients died, including 22 male patients and 17 female patients.
There are currently 19 critical cases and 30 serious cases.
A total of 350 patients have died in public hospitals due to the outbreak, of which 3 were children and most of the others were elderly.
The Chief Administrative Manager (Quality and Standards) of the Hospital Authority, Lau Ka-hsien, said that videos maliciously slandering medical staff have been circulating on the Internet recently. He emphasized that medical staff have always been dedicated to treating patients, and the public should not be provoked by others, and stopped reposting related videos.

The 45-year-old deceased was a long-term patient in a hospital
Liu Jiaxian said that there were 39 new deaths today. Among them, 32 patients died in the past 24 hours, including 17 males and 15 females, aged between 45 and 103, and 27 were over 60 years old. Most of them were elderly people with long-term patients, and those who have not been vaccinated.
Among them, the 45-year-old deceased lived in a hospital and was a long-term patient who needed to be bedridden. When he was admitted to the hospital, his condition was very poor.
Another seven patients died on the 20th of this month, including five men and two women, aged between 66 and 93.
He also pointed out that 50 patients were found to be initially positive when they were admitted to the hospital for screening, and 30 patients in the same room were classified as close contacts.
The current utilization of isolation beds is 92%, which has reached the upper limit of isolation beds.
Liu Jiaxian pointed out that St. Paul's Hospital has agreed to allocate 20 beds to receive non-COVID-19 patients in the East Link of Hong Kong Island, and hope that other private hospitals will follow up with arrangements for receiving patients.

He said that medical staff have been doing their best to treat patients, the Hospital Authority has been adding isolation beds, and the government has also added community isolation facilities.
The Hospital Authority has also mobilized its manpower to fight the epidemic on the front line, including clinical medical staff from pediatrics, orthopedics, and surgery to join the fight against the epidemic, and some hospital beds in clinical departments have been converted to anti-epidemic purposes.
He emphasized that all medical and nursing associations have a duty to save people and do their best to treat patients. He hopes that all sectors of society will fight the epidemic together, and the public should not be provoked by others. He pointed out that the content and comments of the relevant video are not true, and called on the public to stop reposting the relevant video.
