As part of the strategic collaboration, the research institute will be expanded to produce two versions of the Book of Names • "It is essential to ensure that future generations will never forget where anti-Semitism can lead," Abramovich said

Strategic cooperation:

Yad Vashem and Roman Abramovich announced today (Tuesday) a long-term partnership to strengthen Yad Vashem's work in the field of Holocaust research and memory.

Yad Vashem noted that this partnership is part of Abramovich's philanthropic activities around the world to promote Holocaust research and teaching, as well as to combat anti-Semitism.

As part of the collaboration, Abramovich will support the significant enrichment and expansion of the activities of the International Institute for Holocaust Studies at Yad Vashem.

The institute, which is the main academic research body in the field of the Holocaust, has been leading groundbreaking research initiatives for over 30 years.

The Institute's work forms the basis for commemoration and education in the field of Holocaust remembrance.

Yad Vashem added that the new strategic partnership will provide support for five years to help expand and strengthen Yad Vashem's research activities at a time when the effects of Holocaust distortion and denial as well as increasing political uses in the Holocaust are worrying around the world.

Another commitment made as part of the partnership is to support the planning and construction of a new building for the International Institute for Holocaust Studies at Yad Vashem on the Mount of Remembrance in Jerusalem, which will serve as a suitable residence for researchers from Israel and around the world.

In addition, as part of the partnership, Yad Vashem will produce two new versions of the Book of Names, an exhibit that will commemorate some 4,800,000 Holocaust victims, whose names have been collected at Yad Vashem to this day.

While the Nazis and their collaborators sought to destroy the Jewish people, their culture and values, one of the main tasks of Yad Vashem since its inception was to collect the names of Holocaust victims.

The names are collected from various sources and are documented in the Hall of Names and are also accessible in the main database of names of Holocaust victims on the Yad Vashem website.

Yad Vashem created the book of names for the first time for its permanent exhibition "Holocaust" at Block 27 at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum, inaugurated in 2013. This partnership will allow the creation of two identical and up-to-date name books that will be a tangible memory of the individual identities of Jewish men, women and children. The Holocaust and the extent of the Nazis' attempt to exterminate the Jewish people.

The book will include the names of the 4,800,000 victims, their dates of birth, city of birth and place of murder.

Also, similar to the Hall of Names at Yad Vashem which includes blank shelves for the sake of symbolism, the Book of Names will also include blank pages symbolizing the names of the victims whose names are not yet known.

One book will be regularly shown at Yad Vashem and the second book will be a mobile commemorative exhibition, which will travel the world and help raise awareness of the Holocaust and the murder of 6 million Jews.

The chairman of Yad Vashem, Danny Dayan, welcomed the partnership and said: "We thank Roman Abramovich from the bottom of our hearts for his generous contribution, which will be a significant reinforcement of Yad Vashem's work.

This partnership emphasizes his long-standing commitment to the commemoration of the Holocaust and the fight against anti-Semitism and strengthens Yad Vashem's determination to continue its activities as humanity's gatekeeper to accurate Holocaust remembrance based on historical facts.

This memory will continue to be relevant to the Jewish people and to all of humanity, especially at a time when anti-Semitism is spreading throughout the world.

We know that this strategic partnership will lead to further expansion and deepening of Yad Vashem's activities in Israel and around the world. "

Roman Abramovich said: "Yad Vashem's work to preserve the memory of Holocaust victims is essential to ensure that future generations will never forget where anti-Semitism, racism and hatred can lead if we do not go against them. It is a privilege for me to support Yad Vashem and Chairman Danny Dayan while developing and expanding their important work further. "
