Plans for a cable car route along the Frankfurter Ring have fallen through.

However, the traffic problems in the north of Munich remain.

Greens and SPD now want to expand the range of express buses.

Munich – There will be no cable car connecting the Fasanerie, Frankfurter Ring, Studentenstadt and Unterföhring.

A recently presented study showed the inefficiency of the project.

At the same time, however, she calculated that many additional passengers could be won there - if there were a more attractive offer in public transport.

Greens and SPD therefore want to expand the express bus service.

Together with new bus lanes and optimized traffic light circuits, the city councilors are hoping for noticeable improvements in local public transport.

Express buses in the north: X30 is to drive via Arabellapark to the Frankfurter Ring

Specifically, the X35/36 lines, which today end at Studentenstadt/Alte Heide, are to be extended via the Föhringer Ring to Unterföhring or Oberföhring to the S8 or S4.

At the same time, according to the Greens and SPD, the X30 could be driven beyond Arabellapark via Effnerstrasse to the Frankfurter Ring.

North of the Aumeisterweg, a new turning lane from the Föhringer Ring onto the state road 2088 could prevent future delays.

Greens and SPD demand: City administration should check how buses can move faster

In addition, the mobility department and the Munich Transport Company (MVG) are to examine what other measures can be implemented to speed up the bus on the routes mentioned.

"So that fewer cars are driving in our city, we need rapid improvements in local public transport," says SPD City Councilor Nikolaus Gradl.

"We therefore want to expand the express bus system to the Tangentiale in the north of Munich."

In the medium term, many routes in the north of Munich are suitable for a tram," says Green City Councilor Paul Bickelbacher.

"But with express buses we can quickly achieve improvements."
